Stephenson & Stubbs Inducted
LBell Media
For Immediate Release
March 20, 2007
Nashville, TN
Larry Stephenson,
long-time Pinecastle recording artist, was surprised Thursday night March
15th, when he accompanied his wife on a photography job to WSM
studio in Nashville, Tennessee where he found himself live on 650AM being
inducted into the "Southern
Legends Entertainment & Performing Arts Hall of Fame". Mr. Jim Case,
President of Aaron Records and Southern Legends Entertainment &
Performing Arts Hall of Fame Senior Vice President, made the
presentation. This is Stephenson’s second Hall induction, as he has been a
member of the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame since 1996.
Stephenson was prepared to see his good friend
Mr. Eddie Stubbs, disc jockey, Opry Announcer and
grea t
fiddle player, honored with his SLHF induction certificate,
on-air during the Eddie Stubbs Show nightly segment as a surprise, while
Stubbs on the other-hand thought it was for Stephenson. This induction for
Stubbs joins many other accolades he has collected over the years, one of
which being the Country Music Association’s, 2002 "Large Market Broadcast
Personality of the Year" Award.
Both newly inducted members inquired laughingly, if
they were at the, legend, age…and decided after a brief discussion
on "How Time Flies" they both have been in the professional entertainment
business for about thirty years.
The Southern Legends Entertainment & Performing Arts
Hall of Fame was established in 2004 by Widmarc Clark and Mark Cavaliero
and exists of six categories: Rock, Country, Blues, Rhythm & Blues,
Bluegrass and Gospel Music. The Hall of Fame is for southern artists only
and is becoming the most exciting Hall in the South. At this time
Stephenson & Stubbs join the likes of: Conway Twitty, Jerry Lee Lewis,
Elvis, The Statler Brothers, Don Helms among others. To see other Hall of
Fame members visit:

Press Release - Sept. 6, 2006
Columbus, NC
The follow up to Larry
Stephenson's highly successful Clinch Mountain Mystery is
available today. Life Stories is a collection of emotion
evoking tales that Stephenson believes everyone can relate to.
Each song touches on a different aspect of life whether it be longing for
a loved one at home in "Old Kentucky Hills" or the gravely serious tale
"Behind Those Big Closed Doors" which is about Ruby, a girl who was
molested as a child, and offers us the advice "Take heed, don't laugh,
don't criticize' don't judge anymore for you have never lived their life
behind those big closed doors."
Adding on to the story of one of the
most well known murder ballads, "The Knoxville Girl," Tom T. and Dixie
Hall penned "The Knoxville Boy,” which carries on the tradition of
the murder ballad brought to America by the English, Scots, and Irish.
"The Knoxville Girl" is a simple adaptation of the old world ballad, "The
Wexford Girl," with the setting changed from Ireland to Tennessee. Along
with the Americanization of these ballads, the supernatural elements that
were often associated with the old world ballads were left out. "The
Knoxville Boy" retains the old world superstitions by warning that
even though the Knoxville boy was hung for murdering his lover, "he won't
stay in his grave."
The 4 time Society for the
Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) Male Vocalist of the
Year has found success with murder ballads in the past when his song,
"Clinch Mountain Mystery," from his 2005 release by the same name, was
praised as the song of the year by SPBGMA and reached #1 on the Bluegrass
Unlimited music chart.
Remember, “Beware the Knoxville Boy”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(NASHVILLE, TN) February 7, 2005
Larry Stephenson Band Received Top Honors at the SPBGMA Awards and
Stephenson Became A Rager For An Evening

L-R: Tom T. & Dixie Hall, Randy Barnes,
Aaron McDaris & Larry Stephenson
The Larry Stephenson Band
received top honors at this year’s SPBGMA Awards
(Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association) in
Nashville, TN held this past weekend, February 6, 2005. The band
brought home two great titles to carry with them throughout the 2005
season, as the band received the "SONG OF THE YEAR" Award for
their latest title cut Clinch Mountain Mystery, written
by Tom T. & Dixie Hall,
produced by David Parmley, Engineered by Ben Surratt on Pinecastle
Records. The song still holds at #2, after hitting #1 in the December
Bluegrass Unlimited Chart. The band minus one, took the stage in a
scurry as the crowd showed their definite approval, while Larry asked
the Hall’s to join the mix to help receive the award. Both Larry and
Tom T. verbally accepted, showing their excited appreciation to the
fans and for each other. Stephenson said during the night: "The Hall’s
are powerful writers in this business and the Larry Stephenson Band is
proud to be associated with them." This is the first nomination and
win in this category.
The
night also included the "MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR" (Contemporary)
which was giving to Larry Stephenson who happens to be the reigning
2004 awardee. This is his third win in this category and although the
acceptance speech has become a little easier from his very humbling,
tear filled, first acceptance in 2001, he is still extremely honored
and holds the title dear as it is a fan based vote. Stephenson spoke
to the audience, explaining how he loves Bluegrass music and he would
do everything he could to uphold the title for the next year. He also
thanked his band-mates stating they were the greatest guys in the
business to work for him and lastly giving thanks to his wife for her
behind the scenes work.
The night
really came together with the Hall’s taking home the "Song Writer
of
the Year" award early in the night for the fourth consecutive
time. Then shortly after as the "Male Vocalist" was called to
the stage and lastly "Song of the Year" which is the last award
of the night. The show then closed, as Stephenson became a rager
for a night, as he was asked to fill in the mandolin and
singing spot as a very ill Rhonda Vincent had to be taken home. The
"Rage" of Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, closed the show out with guest
Larry Stephenson who did a fine job, for such short notice, learning
songs within the hour from Vincent’s latest DVD set to hit the street
in early March. This show made it possible for Stephenson to once
again hit the stage with his long-time former band member Mickey
Harris who played bass during his tenure with the Larry Stephenson
Band. Even though Vincent could not be there, she was very well
represented, throughout the evening by her band the Rage.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (NASHVILLE, TN)
January 28, 2005
Larry Stephenson visits Cancer Center at Our Lady of
the Lake Regional Medical Center
and the Scott Rogers Show in Baton Rouge, LA
 Virginia
Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee (1996) and SPBGMA’s ‘01/’04 Male
Vocalist, Larry Stephenson of the Larry Stephenson Band, who is still
holding in the top two spots, four months in a row on the Bluegrass
Unlimited chart, has recently returned from a very special trip. On
January 20–22, he helped publicize the upcoming Bluegrass On The
Bayou (BOB) Benefit for the Cancer Center at "Our Lady of
the Lake Regional Medical Center" (OLOLRMC) in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana. The event is to be held on the Louisiana State University (LSU)
campus, April 1-2, 2005 and all proceeds will go directly to the
Cancer Center.
Both Larry and his wife Dreama (Band Manager)
were honored
with several dinners to try the Louisiana fare and a tour of the
Cancer Center and LSU, which also included important key members of
the Bluegrass on the Bayou board and Directors from the Cancer
Center. Several television interviews, radio spots, commercial tapings
and interviews took place over the full weekend. Following a luncheon
the CEO, Robert Moore of "OLOLRMC", explained to Stephenson their
gratitude for his endeavors and how they are extremely excited the
Promoter, John Barham came up with the idea to hold the festival to
raise money for the center.
The trip just
happened to fall during the Mardi Gras "season" and the Stephenson’s
were treated to the black tie – Karnival Krewe de Louisiane Mardi Gras
Ball, which happened to be raising money for the same institution at
OLOLRMC. The couple, were honored guest of Mr. Moore, the Barham’s and
Nancy Carter who coordinates both events. Since Stephenson is a
featured headliner on the festival, he was requested to ride among the
crowned, on his own float throwing beads to the crowd. The
couple had a wonderful time participating in the parade. Stephenson
told Barham: "Thank you for treating us like
kings and queens and having us share in the throwing of the beads, as
we understand it is a huge honor. We will promote and encourage as
many fans as possible to come out to support this wonderful
organization and maybe the BOB will top out by raising more than the
ball’s $141,000.00. We’ve made new and great friends while here and
look forward to a long relationship. We’ll be glad to support you any
way we can…"
Larry Stephenson along with Carter participated in
two television interviews, the Scott Rogers – Around Town Morning
Show, which is very popular to Baton Rouge and the surrounding
areas. Also, the ABC Local Morning News was a huge hit earlier
that morning. The last day, the couple were taken to nearby New
Orleans for a quick tour and brunch at Brennan’s in the French
Quarter. After returning home, Larry was inspired to begin writing a
song, which may be featured, on a future project.
Stephenson is known for his support of several
benefits including St. Judes in Memphis, Literacy in Georgia,
the Homeless in Nashville, as well as OLOL Cancer Center.

Bluegrass Now
March 2004: Inside Bluegrass
By: Wayne BledsoeLarry
Stephenson Reaches Milestone
Congratulations to Larry Stephenson, who will celebrate
his 15th anniversary as a solo artist and band leader in 2004.
In addition to having the most pleasantly distinct tenor voice in
bluegrass music, he is also one of bluegrass’s most outstanding mandolin
player. It was hardly surprising that when Time Life Warner was selecting
music for their very prestigious "Gospel" compilation, they included Larry
Stephenson’s "Yes, I See God" among the honored few.
For those fans who may not know Larry "off stage," he
has few peers when it comes to his personal commitment to the advancement
of all aspects of the bluegrass industry. Whenever called upon to
represent the industry in virtually any capacity, Larry gives freely of
his time and talent and when you combine his professional generosity with
his unwavering, gentlemanly demeanor, he is definitely in a class by
himself.
One very unique aspect of Larry’s stellar career is that
he has, in essence, been associated with the same recording label for the
past fifteen years. He began his solo recording career with Webco Records,
which was eventually purchased by Tom Riggs, founder of Pinecastle
Records, where Larry has continued as one of their most highly regarded
artists. Larry’s newest Pinecastle release, Clinch Mountain Mystery,
is scheduled to be released this Spring. Larry is also an integral part of
the super bluegrass group, WhiteHouse and in 1996 he was quite
deservedly inducted into the Virginia Music Hall of Fame.
Bluegrass Now Magazine
thanks Larry for his sincere dedication to bluegrass music, for all the
pleasure he’s brought to us and we extend our best wishes for many more
rewarding years.
