Kenny Ingram

Banjo & Vocals

KENNY INGRAM started his new endeavors with LARRY STEPHENSON at the top of the New Year  01-01-2009. He began playing banjo at age twelve. He first became interested in playing banjo by watching the Flatt & Scruggs TV show. This interest lead to his parents purchasing him his first banjo. As a teenager he played dances in and around Dickson, TN. Then his first professional job was with James Monroe and The Midnight Ramblers, bringing him to May of 1972 where he began playing with Jimmy Martin and The Sunny Mountain Boys. Later, in October of 1973 he went to work with Lester Flatt & The Nashville Grass, which would gain him world acclaim from their appearances each week day morning on The Martha White Show broadcast on WSM radio in Tennessee. Afterwards, Kenny was led to rejoin Jimmy Martin in June 1978 and remained a band member until 1980. During the years, 1981 - 1986 he then worked with Curly Seckler, a former  band member  of Lester Flatt's who had taken over as bandleader of the former Lester Flatt band. Kenny went on to play locally with friends and at church functions during 1986 -2001 where he enjoyed being at home off the road, spending time with his wife Kaye and children; Kenneth Michael, Mary and Laura. But found himself in November 2001 returning to the road and touring with Rhonda Vincent's stage band, the Rage. This of course has led him to now tour with the award winning LARRY STEPHENSON BAND. Kenny stated "this is an exciting time, and I'm looking forward to playing with  LARRY STEPHENSON and the group".  The band is also thrilled to have this wonderful addition and welcomes Kenny's trade-mark hard driving style on banjo and his great vocals.  Be on the listen for those wonderful quartets the band has to offer.  Back to Top

Danny Stewart

Upright Bass  & Vocals

DANNY STEWART, a wonderful addition to the the Larry Stephenson Band, is originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania. and has been playing bluegrass since the age of eight. Introduced into the music by his father, a fine mandolin player, Danny has played in several regional bands throughout the Pennsylvania area as a teenager. Danny is an accomplished bass player, but also is very proficient on the banjo and guitar as well. He had the opportunity of playing with Danny Paisley and Southern Grass while a senior in high school on various tours. Stewart decided to pursue his bluegrass music in 2007 after graduating high school, by moving to Johnson City, Tennessee and being a part of East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass, Old Time, and County Music Program. He is a 2011 graduate and now teaches bass and guitar at the college. Danny has had the privilege of playing with many bluegrass acts, including Karl Shiflett and Big Country Show, Ralph Stanley, Jesse McReynolds, Raymond McLain, and Roni Stoneman before leading to his full-time position now with the Larry Stephenson Band. Off the road you may find him spending time with his new wife Ashley whom he married in January 2013 during a beautiful beach wedding.

Colby Laney

Guitar & Vocals

COLBY LANEY the newest addition, joined the Larry Stephenson Band in May 2012. He began playing fiddle at age five, and guitar at age eleven. He remembers his father, Barte, making music around the home when he was a young child. Barte played mandolin, fiddle and guitar, and helped establish Colby’s musical roots. Growing up, he listened to his Dad’s vinyl collection, bluegrass tapes as well as CD’s, and has too many musical heroes to list. During high school he met many friends and musicians in the Western North Carolina region including brother-in-law, friend and musical influence Aaron Ramsey (Mountain Heart). Colby played in several regional bands before going to college in Johnson City, TN. After attending ETSU for one semester, he was fortunate to travel with the ETSU Pride Band. Before joining the LSB, he performed with acts like Mountain Heart, Alecia Nugent, Next Best Thing and Volume Five. Colby plays mandolin and bass as well, and also enjoys writing songs. Colby is very excited to have the opportunity to be playing with the Larry Stephenson Band.
